This sugar bowl is the work of one of the great names in 18th-century French goldsmithing. François Joubert has created a piece of great aesthetic quality here, borrowing from the Rocaille style. The twisted ribs characteristic of this style bring a movement of great elegance to this sugar bowl, which captures the light from all sides. The handle of the lid represents a branch blooming into flowers. The friezes that adorn the base of the lid and body have a drape worked in amati, that is, it gives a matte effect to the metal in contrast with the shine of the silver. A cartouche containing a stylized count's crown also follows the movement of the twisted ribs. A similar decorative element can be found on a sauceboat by François Joubert preserved at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
